Over the years there have been dozens of jaw-dropping supercars, but not one of them has had the visual presence of the Countach. The most brutal supercar ever created – aesthetically and dynamically – the Countach was stylistically the work of Marcello Gandini. However, while it looked amazing, drive the Countach and you’d soon tire of its heavy clutch, hot and cramped cabin plus its overlight steering at speed. It may have been capable of massive speeds, but the chances of achieving them and getting out alive were all too slim.
This first iteration of the Countach (the LP400) had a claimed 375bhp; supposedly enough for a top speed of over 190mph. But nobody ever verified it officially.
