Jaguar XJ Series 3

Jaguar’s advertising slogan was ‘Grace, space and pace’ – three qualities the XJ6 had in spades. It was also far more affordable than its rivals (which were few and far between), but Jaguar obviously couldn’t come up with a fourth word in the sequence, to encapsulate the car’s affordability. Still held up as a benchmark for ride comfort, the Series 3 was offered with Jaguar’s long-lived XK straight-six engine or its outstandingly smooth V12, each of which offered uncanny levels of refinement.

Jaguar launched rts first XJ in 1968, creating a template for fast, smooth and refined saloons.

This evolved into the Series 2 in 1973 and the Series 3 in 1979.
