FERRARI 365 GT4 BERLINETTA BOXER

Lamborghini had introduced the world to the reality of a mid-engined V12-powered road car, but Ferrari persisted with a front-mounted V12 for its range toppers for years afterwards. However, by 1973 the company had joined the ranks of other supercar manufacturers, with the launch of the 365 GT4 BB – a car better known as the Boxer, thanks to its horizontally opposed powerplant. A beautiful shape and massive performance soon made the car a hit, including in the all-important US market.

Even the earliest Boxers could manage 170mph – although Ferrari claimed a 188mph top speed. The later cars weren’t any quicker, but they were more efficient.

The first Boxer featured a 4.4-litre V12, From 1976 there a 4.9-litre unit; the car also became the 512 BB- then the 512 BBi with fuel injection arrived in 1981.
