The 308GTB and GTS (targa version) represented quite a departure for Ferrari; this was its first mid-engined production car with a V8 engine. Designed to supersede the V6-powered 246 ‘Dino’, the GTB and GTS were born on the back of the success of the fourseater 308GT4 that had been introduced in 1973.
To some the 308 GTB is still the best shape ever to have come out of Ferrari, but when the car was updated in 1985 to become the 328, it looked even neater, without losing those gorgeous proportions.
Ferrari’s various markets around the globe got the 308GTB. but due to tax laws, its home market got the 208GTB: a turbocharged 2.0 litre edition.
