What does Saab Biopower mean?

Advancing technology is really improving lives everywhere. About a decade ago, the mention of green energy elicited debates about the practicality of driving on green fuel. Today, in some countries like Brazil, fuel efficient cars as well as those operating on green engines are selling more than ordinary engine cars! This is just but a sign of things to come. The advent of bio-fuels has made driving very eco-friendly. The technology is spreading very fast and soon bio-fuel engines will be found in almost every country in the world.

 What does Saab biopower mean?

If you have heard of flexi-fuel engines, you are not far from the answer. Flexi-fuel engines are now on the increase everywhere. They are fuel efficient and versatile as well. They can operate on petrol, E85 bioethanol or a mixture of both. They are able to automatically detect the type of fuel in the tank and adjust themselves accordingly. This is exactly what Saab biopower is.

 About Bioethanol

Bioethanol is another alternative fuel available in the market today. Not only is it renewable; It is also very sustainable, unlike petrol and the like. High volumes of this fuel are mixed with lower volumes or quantities of petrol to produce a potent and environment friendly combination called bioethanol E85. This new alternative fuel reduces the emission of harmful carbon dioxide by up to 70%. We all know that carbon dioxide is a major component of the greenhouse gases responsible for global warming.

 Benefits Of Bioethanol E85

Compared to petrol, bioethanol E85 produces more power. While petrol has an octane rating of 95, bioethanol E85 has a higher rate of 104. What does this imply? This means that using bioethanol E85 in a turbocharged flexi-fuel engine produces more power compared to use of petrol in the same engine. This is because a turbocharge flexi-fuel engine permits the use of advanced ignition timing and higher boost pressure, compared to petrol. This happens without the risk of pre-detonation or ‘harmful’ knocking. The only necessary adjustment is the use of materials that are compatible to bioethanol in the entire fuel system. These include lines, tank, connectors and pump, among others.

The management system of the powerful Trionic Saab engine is very adaptable. This makes it even more advantageous because it can be re-programmed to accommodate the fuel and mixture requirements of the bioethanol E85. This also enables it to work with different ignition timing as well. The quality of fuel is trionic monitored for automatic adjustment after fueling at a filling station. The adjustments are necessary for the engine to use either bioethanol, petrol or a combination of both. This means that drivers of these Saab engines can revert to petrol anytime if bioethanol is not available.

Research findings show that per annum, driving petrol does 15,000 km on a about 1,350 liters. For the same distance, a bioethanol driver can use up to 1,755 liters of bioethanol E85 containing 263 liters of petrol. It follows that every Saab driver can reduce usage of petrol by a massive 1,087 liters, and greatly reduce emission of harmful fumes into the atmosphere.
