Tips for Buying a New or Used Car

No matter what type of car body you’re thinking of buying, there are a few tips that can help you to choose the right car and get a good deal on the car you want. Most of the tips you’ll read below are based on how to be satisfied with your choice far into the future, rather than simply the day you drive your new or used car home. First things first, what kind of car do you want? And what kind of car is the most practical for your life and your wallet?

1.  New or Used?

Used cars are always going to be cheaper than the same car brand new, and you can often get a nicer car for the same price as you’d buy a crappy brand new car. For many people, used cars are the way to go. But buying used does have its downsides. You’ll have to have the car checked out by a mechanic, to make sure you’re not buying something that’s going to cost you a lot in a year or two. Do the research to make sure that you’re not buying a car with bad gas mileage or one that frequently needs repairs after a certain mileage milestone.

 2.  Start with Car Model, Then Move on to Make

Do you need a four door? Want something you can put your sports gear into? Do you have a family that needs driving around? Are you hoping to spend time cruising the coastline with the top down? Think about how you’ll use the car and figure out which model makes the most sense for you. Once you’ve selected a hatchback, wagon, sedan, minivan, truck or SUV, you can start looking at whether you’d prefer a Toyota, Honda, Ford, or Mercedes Benz.

 3.  Always be Ready to Walk Away

Once you get to the table, it’ll be tempting to say yes to things you’ll regret later on. If you have any doubts, for any or no reason, walk away from the purchase. You can always find another car, but you won’t be able to get your money back once you buy. You’re in control and you can decide how much you want to spend and which car you want to buy.

Hopefully, you’ll find a car that will last for many years and not cost a lot of money over time. Finding something practical and only buying when the price is right will keep you from regretting your choices.
