Nissan’s Skyline brand can be traced all the way back to 1955, when the cars were produced by Prince, which would later be absorbed into the Nissan-Datsun empire. It wouldn’t be until 1968 that the first GT-R would appear though, available as a two-door coupe or four-door saloon. From the outset Datsun had motorsport in mind; with over 1000 race wins by the time it was discontinued in 1972, the GT-R was competitive, and this was just the start; the Skyline GT-R brand would endure into the 21st century, by which time things would have been cranked up several notches…
Power forthe first Skyline GT-R was provided by a 2.0-litre straight-six: this layout would be used lor all versions until Ihe last in 2002.
