For some reason, think 1960s supercars and thoughts of Ferraris and Lamborghinis spring to mind. But there was another Latin marque producing amazing cars – Maserati. The Ghibli is arguably the most stylish car ever made by Maserati; it was based on the defunct Mexico, with the chassis shortened and the engine enlarged to 4.7 litres. This powerplant was also the most powerful that Maserati had ever built; at first just a coupe was offered, but from 1967 there was also a spyder.

The Ghibli name was revived in 1992. for a high-performance Biturbo. Now it’s been revived again lor a new volume seller, to slot below the Quattroporte.
