Energy is required to break down water into the constituent elements; oxygen and hydrogen. In a single molecule of water, there are two parts hydrogen to one part of oxygen. Fuel Efficiency

Some people claim that using a hydrogen car kit will triple your mileage. This is however a pretty wild claim. While you can expect improved fuel efficiency (20-60%), it will not realistically triple the mileage.

Fuel efficiency is a combination of many factors. Attaching a hydrogen kit will not do it entirely. The use of such kits has also faced a hurdle in the newer vehicles (1996 and later). For starters, these models have an integrated computer controlled fuel usage system. Thus means that a computer will determine the different mixtures for varying road conditions. The presence of oxygen in the exhaust gases alerts the system that the mixture is too lean. The control unit then makes adjustments to deliver more fuel to balance the mixture. Remedy

There is a trick to beat this though. The most effective is integrating an Electronic Fuel Injection Enhancer (EFIE). The enhancement serves to alert the control module that the lean mixture is actually a prime thing for the vehicle. You can also add on a Mass Air Flow Enhancer (MAF).

More advanced hydrogen kits are only available for limited release concept cars and scientific experiments. Thus is because the process, in the meantime, is too expensive for mass car production. There are also loopholes in the developments, resulting in low energy yields. Extensive research is however on course for less costs and higher energy output.
