Volkswagen and Andretti Autosport have teamed up to unveil the GRC Beetle at the Chicago Auto Show.
Set to compete in the Red Bull Global Rallycross series, the GRC Beetle has a turbocharged TSI engine that develops more than 560 bhp (417 kW). Additional information is limited but the model has also been equipped with an all-wheel drive system.
The cars will compete under the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross banner and be driven by Tanner Foust and Scott Speed. However, the team will initially use modified Polo rally cars before switching over to the GRC Beetle midseason.
According to Volkswagen Group of America CEO Michael Horn, “Red Bull Global Rallycross is the perfect form of motor sports for a youthful, exuberant, and growing brand in the U.S. market. We’re excited to partner with Andretti Autosport, one of the great names in American motor sports, and delighted that we will be running the iconic Beetle in the series.”
